Anxiety As Supreme Court Sets To Deliver Judgement on Cross River North Senatorial Bye-Election

 

There are increasing tension in Cross River State, particularly the Governor Ben Ayade’s camp and the National Assembly’s camp as supreme Court set to deliver judgement on Cross River North Senatorial Bye-Election.

 

The supreme court of Nigeria in its sitting today has ruled that it will deliver judgement on the Appeal bothering on the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the recently concluded Cross River North Senatorial Bye-election.

The supreme court has before it three Appeals against the Court of Appeal judgement declaring Jarigbe Agom the validly elected candidate of the PDP and winner of the Cross River North Senatorial election.

The appeals include;
1- PDP (Appellant) vs Chief John Alaga, others(respondents).

2- Dr Odey Adi( Appellant) vs John Alaga and others (Jarigbe, INEC) (Respondents)

3- Joe Agi SAN vs INEC, Others.

The apex court before commencing proceedings agreed to “Consolidate the Appeals”, after listening to arguments from counsels to the appellants and defendants on the first and second Appeals, ruled that judgement will be passed at a date that will be communicated to the parties.

The court however admonished the third Appellant to focus on his case at the tribunal as the matter at the supreme court bothers around a political party.

The Cross River North Senatorial Bye-election case at the Supreme Court being time bound will expire on 26th February, 2021.
