A 20-year-old sales boy, Ogbodo Ilesanmi, was on Monday arraigned by the Ondo Police Command at an Odigbo Magistrates’ Court in Odigbo Local Government of Ondo State for allegedly stealing the sum of N279,700.
Ogbodo, who lives in Idi-Mango area of Ore, was charged with theft for allegedly stealing the money from his boss’ shop where he was serving as an apprentice.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector James Usifoh, he told the court that the complainant, Mr. Gbemiro Akinmulewo, employed the defendant in his shop before committing the offence on September 17, 2019, at about 8.00 am at Idi-mango street, Ore.
He added that the amount stolen by the defendant was from the proceeds of sales in the shop.
While stating that the offence contravened section 383 and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006, the prosecutor told the court that when the defendant was questioned by the police, he admitted stealing some amount, but later tried to abscond.
With the defendant, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, his Counsel Mr. Rufus Omotayo, said it is a case of master-servant relationship which is bailable.
He prayed that the court should grant the accused bail in a most liable term as he promised that he would not jump bail if granted.
Meanwhile, Magistrate T.J Ajayi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that both sureties must be responsible citizens with their addresses verified by the court.
The Magistrate also ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should show evidence of tax payment to the Ondo State Government.
The case was subsequently adjourned till October 10, 2019, for mention.
