The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Cross River State, commends the gallant troops of 13 Brigade operating under the command of 82 Division of the Nigerian Army for successfully intercepting a Toyota Camry Car with registration number JAL 492 AA, loaded with an array of assorted and sophisticated ammunition as reported during last week. The Toyota Camry car, according to reports from the Defence Headquarters, Office of the Director Army Public Relations, was intercepted on Tuesday 21st of June 2022, en-route Utanga Village towards Obudu Mountains.
As a Political Party that is security conscious, we heartily salute the gallant disposition of the eagle-eyed troops of the Nigerian Army, and charge them to continue unrelentingly in the protection of lives and properties in the State.
On the Part of the State Government, the Peoples Democratic Party asserts that the silence of Governor Ben Ayade’s administration over the proliferation of small arms in the state leading to abject state of Insecurity in the state, especially in the Northern Senatorial District, further confirms the suspicion of complicity of the State government in the insecurity ravaging our State. We are appalled by the fact that the state government appears to be handicapped or is pretending not to be aware of the many insecurity challenges in this part of the State. Till now, there is no Official statement from the government addressing the spate of Insecurity in the state nor did the state government demonstrate any concern expected of the Chief Security officer of a State.
This has further lent credence to the fears being expressed in several quarters by Cross Riverians of the plan by the All Progressive Congress Government in Cross River State to use brutish forces in winning the General Election in 2023, as witnessed in the last by-election in Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, where thugs in Military uniform were embedded with State security and used in hijacking ballot boxes for the APC candidate. Only recently some state sponsored thugs were similarly used in disrupting the PDP House of Representatives and House of Assembly primaries in Obudu.
As a Party, we are concerned by this disturbing spate of Insecurity across the state, which appears to be an orchestration to sabotage the process of a free, fair and credible election in 2023, having realized that the people of Cross River State are grossly disenchanted with the APC Government.
We call on relevant authorities and security agencies to remain vigilant and refuse any form of entreaty that will compromise and jeopardize the Security of lives and propery in the State.
We also call on the Nigerian Army to carry out thorough investigation and unravel the faces behind the intercepted ammunition and illegal military uniforms because we suspect that these are all being amassed In preparation for the 2023 General elections and nothing more.
Finally, we call on Cross Riverians to remain security conscious and report any suspicious activity within their environment to security authorities for prompt investigation.
We further enjoin those without PVCs to get registered and join hands in voting out APC in 2023 and reclaiming our beloved State.
