2023: Buhari Release Names of Two Presidential Aspirants As Successor, To Take Final Decision Friday


President Muhammadu Buhari may have shortlisted Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Senate President Ahmad Lawan as his prefered successor.

The President had appealed to the APC governors to allow him to pick his preferred successor ahead of the party’s presidential primaries on June 6.

Buhari made the appeal during a meeting with the governors and the National Chairman of the ruling party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.


A Presidential source disclosed that Buhari is torn between the choice of Lawan and Osinbajo, following the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the PDP presidential candidate.


According to the Daily Sun, a team is looking at the pros and cons of selecting Lawan or Osinbajo, with the view to giving President Buhari informed advice for the final decision to be made on his return from Spain by Friday.


The presidential source said Buhari during his meeting with APC governors carefully highlighted that his choice would be someone capable of driving his visions.

He said Osinbajo has also strongly defended Buhari’s policies and projects, having played a lead role in its execution with the management of key initiatives central to the administration’s strategic imperatives.

The presidential source added that Lawan has also supported key legislation and helped support the President’s external borrowing policy.

It was learned that a lobby group would be raised in the coming days to work in the north and south, depending on who the President chooses between Osinbajo and Lawan.

The lobby group is waiting to meet with northern and southern elders in APC to solicit support for either of the two presidential aspirants.

In other news, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP led by the national chairman has presented a Certificate of Return to the 2023 presidential flagbearer Atiku Abubakar In reaction, Atiku while soliciting the support of the PDP leaders urged the major stakeholders of the party to get to work and not take the impending defeat of the ruling APC for granted Excited Atiku disclosed that the primary was a contest within a family but the main contest is the one to win the presidency of our country for our party.


The Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has solicited the support of his rivals in the opposition party to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election, The Punch reports. Atiku made this appeal on Wednesday, June 1, after he received the party’s Certificate of Return at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.


According to the former Vice-President, his main opponent is the APC and not his co-aspirants in Sunday’s presidential primary.

He urged his contenders to join forces with him to eject the APC government led by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Atiku said what happened was not an election but a process for the party to put its best forward for the general election, Daily Trust added.


This was as he also pleaded with the NWC to bring everyone on board towards wrestling power from the APC, adding that: “We should not take their defeat for granted.


We must unite and work extremely hard for every single vote in this country. There is so much to do. And there is very little time to waste. So let’s get to work.”



APC Can Not Defeat Atiku If They Fail To Produce Acceptable, saleable And Popular Candidate – Babajide Otitoju.



In another development, Babajide Otitoju, a popular Nigerian broadcaster has stated that unless the ruling party elected a popular candidate in their primaries, Atiku Abubakar would be the next president. 


It is no longer news that former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has been elected by the People Democratic Party to represent the party in the 2023 presidential election.


It would be recalled that Atiku defeated the likes of Bukola Saraki, Dele Momodu, as well as Nyesom Wike to emerge as the party’s flag bearer in the coming elections.


It would also be recalled that the All Progressives Congress have concluded their screening and are gearing up for the primaries.


Babajide Otitoju, a popular Nigerian broadcaster and multiple awards winning journalist yesterday’s Tuesday 31st-05-2022 has stated that unless the ruling party elected a popular candidate in their primaries, Atiku Abubakar would be the next president.

Speaking during yesterday’s edition of journalists hangout, Babajide Otitoju said Atiku is a formidable candidate that has been contesting for the presidential seat over the years.


According to him, Atiku Abubakar would easily win if APC did not present a candidate that would be acceptable.


Hear him “Atiku is not a push over. Any body that can run the race against the sitting president the way Atiku did is not a push over. Atiku won even more states. He won states that his party was not controlling. That’s not the kind of person you will joke with.


If you bring somebody who is not popular enough, somebody who doesn’t have a cross country support and appeal, you can not be able to defeat Atiku. It is on records that Atiku Abubakar contested election and done well in the past. He may not have won all the elections he participated but he has done well. He is a formidable opponent. For those who understand politics would know that Atiku is formidable and he knows the game. That’s why he contested for 29 years. If you don’t want Atiku to get lucky, you must choose an acceptable and saleable candidates that is popular to the people. ” Babajide Otitoju stated.
