2023 Presidential Election: Aso Rock Cabal Backs Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele To Take Over From Buhari

As power intrigues and permutations towards the 2023 presidential race continue to unfold, WazobiaReporters has gathered exclusively that President Muhammadu Buhari’s men are considering backing Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele for 2023 presidential run.

The thinking is that Emefiele, as presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), will satisfy the increasing clamour for power shift to the South, especially the Igbo ethnic group, weetalknaija.com.ng learnt.

Born on August 4, 1961 in Lagos State, Emefiele is an Igbo man from Ika South, Agbor region of Delta State. He has been serving as CBN Governor since June 2014.

Emefiele was first appointed as CBN Governor by the government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan and was reappointed for another five years tenure in 2019 by the APC government of President Buhari.

Informed presidency source confided in WazobiaReporters that attention has been shifted to Emefiele, with the President’s men of the belief that he will protect their interest better.

Also, it is being opined that Emefiele will be able to carry on with the programs of the Buhari’s administration, having been head of the apex bank since the inception of the government in 2015.

“Truth is, they (Buhari’s men) are now looking at the Emefiele option, seeing him as a safe bet, who is not likely to rock the boat.

“Even though Emefiele is from Delta State, he is an Igbo man and the thinking is that his emergence will satisfy the yearnings of those clamouring for a president of Igbo extraction.

“Thus, the consensus has gained momentum among core Buhari’s loyalists who are pushing the button to have Emefiele succeed their boss,” the source said.

Disclosing further, the source said; “Emefiele is already in the picture and he has confided in some of his close allies, especially those in the banking industry.

“Funding will not be a problem because aside the President’s political family, Emefiele, himself is capable of mobilising enough fund for the project and he is only waiting for the final whistle.
