8 Members of Cross River House of Assembly Dump Ayade, Set To Rejoin PDP


No fewer than eight members of the Cross River State House of Assembly has indicated their interests to rejoin the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) few months after joining the state Governor, Ben Ayade, to defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The members who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said that all the promises made by the state governor have not been kept.

They lamented that aside not fulfilling the promise made to them before defection, the governor equally hijacked the process of selection of executive members for the ward congress and gave to his aides, thereby denying them the opportunity to also incorporate their loyalist into the exco.

Similarly, they argued that they have been no financial compensation since they joined the APC, hence they wanted to return to their original party, the PDP.

One of them who spoke angrily, said that their colleagues who did not defect with them where better taken care off and benefiting more largesse from the PDP Governors Forum which comes to them monthly.

On the issue of the trip to France, only 6 members have agreed to follow the Governor because he wants the members to travel without Este code and pay for their visa fees.

They expressed sadness that they could no longer carry their loyalist along because the governor has not been sincere to them and the promises he made.

The CRHA has been delisted from the International Legislative Forum due to lack of payment of dues and non travelling to other countries for interaction with other lawmakers for sharing of legislative ideas and for capacity building.

Members of the house were supposed to use the moment of their recess to travel to other countries for this legislative interactions and engagement for knowledge building and exposure, but to no avail.

They threatened that if nothing urgent is done about their plights, they will dump the APC for the governor and his aides and return to PDP ahead of 2023.
