After 11-Year Blackout, Three Communities In Cross River Finally Get Transformers

After an 11-year outage, three Cross River communities are getting transformers.

Electric transformers were built in three communities in the Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State over the weekend, putting an end to eleven years of darkness.
Senator Gershom Bassey of the southern senatorial district built transformers in the villages of Esuk Ekpo Eyo, Ikot Nakanda, and Ifondo, whose transformers were vandalized over a decade ago.

This comes just two weeks after Phase 2 of Akpabuyo installed transformers at CROSPIL Housing estate along Navy Road, St Joseph Hospital, Idundun Efita, Eto Mkpe Archibong Edem, and Ikot Edem Ndarake neighbourhoods.

Senator Bassey, who was represented by Mr Ekpo Ada, the director of his campaign organization who oversees the transformer installation, urged the communities to take ownership of the projects by protecting them to prevent vandalism.

“This project is part of Senator Gershom Bassey’s pledge to bring development to the constituency during his campaign. As a result, you must take good care of them in order to prevent them from being vandalized again.”

Other areas in the Southern Senatorial District that are currently experiencing blackouts will benefit from the next batch of transformers that will be delivered soon, according to him.

The village chief of Ifondo, Chief Asuquo Nyong Nsan, expressed appreciation to the Senator and thanked him for ensuring the community’s access to electricity.

He praised the senator for being concerned about his constituents’ infrastructure growth.

“Now that electricity is available, our citizens can easily conduct both domestic and commercial activities.”

He urged the Senator to continue his approach to infrastructure and human capital growth, saying that his people will remember him for his achievements.
