*RECENT*: Elder, (H/Chief)Dr. Asuquo Ekpenyong (FCIB)OON, CEO of Davandy Group has shown solidarity to the people of Ntan Obu community in Eniong Abatim of Odukpani LGA. He made this during a fact finding visit on (20/9/2019) with a view to acertain the level of damage caused by the recent flood that ravaged the community and to find respite to the people.
Ufuk-hEyo Eniong Abatim dispatch a delegation led by Comr, Kingsley lta lkpeme, immediate Past Director General of Greater Calabar Capital City Development Authority, while sympathising with members of the affected community, informed the people that flood is a natural disaster which is very common in communities bounded by river, he also drew their attention to the forecast of NIMET of 2019 which had earlier predicted seasonal rainfalls which is expected to be below normal in most parts of the country.
Chief Asuquo reminded the people that as an indigene of Eniong Abatim, there have never been a time where flood completely took over any of the residential buildings of the Abatims who reside along the creeks of Odukpani LGA, but the water when over flows during the rains surmages a little parcel of the land, Hence the people have nothing to fear but go about their businesses and desist from act that can lead to blockage of the water ways.
The team embarked on a feasibility study round the village, where houses, schools, church, and the yet to be complete police outpost was visited. The visit also feautured meeting with the chiefs, women, management of schools and youths of the community, he commended the chiefs for sustaining peace, law and order in the community and also admonished the Youths to be good ambassadors of the community while encouraging them also to continue in protecting government infrastructure in the community .
On his visit to the school, he was received by a representative of the head teacher (Elder, Mrs. Glory Alfred, where he also encouraged the school management to always live up to expectation as the students looks up to them as role models and call on all hands to be on deck in the transformation of the school to meet the 21st century educational demands, he also promised the members of the community that the police outstation will be looked into to boost security in the community.
It would be recalled that in 2012 the people of ikpaiyak in lbiono Local Government of Akwa lbom State in sync with fulani herdmen invaded Ntan Obu village leading to destruction of lives and properities, and Chief Asuquo Ekpenyong rose to the occasion and cushion the effects of untold hardship on the people by dispatching a delegation with a mandate to acertain the extent of distruction of both lives and properties, invited the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
This and many more he has been doing quietly. Worthy of Note is the fact that the Eniong Abatim Communities have been battling with series of attacks by their hostile neighbours from Akwa lbom State and Arochukwu of Abia State, where some villages have been completely sacked, indigenes flee their native land, etc. Chief Asuquo Ekpenyong who is the Chairman of North Western Calabar Traditional Rulers Council and an Elder Stateman has in many occasions contributed to the security architecture of Odukpani LGA, Cross River State and Neighboring States, little wonder he was in the delegation from Cross River State led by the Deputy Governor, H/E(Prof) lvara Esu recently for a Peace and Conflicts Resolution meeting held in Uyo the Akwa lbom State Capital, where the Governor was represented by the Deputy, the meeting was successful and the both States signed the peace accord also calling on the National Boundary Commission to as a matter of urgency clearly demarcate the boundaries between Cross River State and Neighboring States, the meeting lead to the D.G(NBC) visiting the disputed area and Promised to carry out the demarcation exercise soon.
Chief Asuquo Ekpenyong a seasoned banker and stock broker Promised to continue supporting the good people of Ntan Obu Village, while Encouraging the Youths to take to enterpreneurship not to all expect white collar jobs. ln separate speeches the Village Head(Ag) of Ntan Obu Village, Chief Effiong Etim thanked H/Chief Asuquo for always remembering the people and recount his contributions during the invasion of the Community and unannounced assistance to the sons and daughters of the area, he pledge the Community readiness to always maintain peace, law and order as part of their contributions to the growth and development of Odukpani and Cross River State, he appeal to him to do more for the people and call on the Local and State Government to look into the predicaments of the people by providing Relief materials to them, as they are still suffering from the scars of the invasion and he stressed that this is the first delegation to visit Ntan Obu Village, Since the out break of the Flood. Responding the representative of the Head Teacher, Elder (Mrs) Glory Alfred used the opportunity to commend Chief Ekpenyong for his people oriented programs and serving as a Breach to Greater Heights, she appreciated his good Leadership disposition as exemplified in his visit to the community to show solidarity in the wake of the news of flooding in the village, she appealed to the state government to pay more attention to the school as it’s dare need of intervention.
The Youths in their speech through a council member, Mr. David were filled with praise to Chief Ekpenyong for remembering their Community in their times of needs and his past records of Assistance to Obio-Usiere Fulani attack and Ito Crises and Odukpani LGA genreally which has led to resoliof the lingering disputes.
As Oliver twist they are asking for more, he appeal to the government to complete the work on the police outstation which was abandoned for almost four (4) Years, he also called for urgent deployment of security officials to the Community.
