Akwa Ibom APC Crisis Takes New Dimension As National Acting Secretary Orders Immediate Suspension Of 21 Chapter Chairmen

There seems to be no end in sight in the crisis rocking the APC in Akwa Ibom State following the sham congresses of last Saturday as 21 chapter chairmen which protested the anti-democratic and dictatorial process of the Congresses have been arbitrarily suspended ostensibly at the behest of the acting National Secretary.

The APC Congresses which were scheduled to take place across the Nation suffered an unhealthy twist in Akwa Ibom as the acting National Secretary is alleged to have used the State EXCO of APC to perfect a scheme that involved the hijacking of Congress materials to a hotel where names of the acting National Secretary’s cronies were purportedly fielded as elected Ward Officers of the party.

The misgivings of APC stakeholders and members are further accentuated by the unsavoury conduct of Alhaji Sheriff Bangi who is alleged to be shamelessly doing the bidding of the acting National Secretary without recourse to the interest of the party in the State which wish to demonstrate transparency in its conduct of the Congresses to ensure internal democracy as well as engender public confidence and support in the build up to 2023.

Bangi’s conduct during the Congresses which witnessed total disappearance is said to be equivalent to same action by him during the last membership and revalidation exercise wherein majority of members of APC were wilfully disenfranchised on the bidding of the acting National Secretary.

It is public knowledge that the APC has been on rapid decline since the ascension of Senator James John Akpanudoedeghe as acting National Secretary of All Progressive Congress. Rather than use the exalted position to grow and enhance the fortunes of the party in Akwa Ibom State, he has turned it into a tool of vindictiveness and high handedness in the warped belief that such modus operandi would assure him of APC gubernatorial ticket which he boastfully claims he must get as a matter of right or by coersion .

It is on record that Senator John James Akpanudoedeghe has made himself a professional governorship aspirant having started this desperation in 2011 and followed it up in 2015 and 2019. Not willing to let go he is on the block again for 2023 this time with greater viciousness and unbridled desperation that puts APC in the State in great peril.

The suspension of 21 chapter chairmen of the party is said to be the icing on the cake in this desperate quest. The Chairman of Ward Chairmen has warned against the acceptance of the purported list of Congress Officers by the National noting no Congress took place in the entire breadth of the State as there were no materials anywhere for the exercise.

In an interaction with a passionate member of the party, Charles Tom,he said, ” Udoedeghe’s conduct portends crisis for the party. His erroneous claim that he owns the party is antithetical to democracy and to many of us who have laboured sacrificially for the party”. Tom advised the National hierarchy of APC not to stand by and watch the acting National Secretary destroy the APC in Akwa Ibom State because of desperate and selfish ambition. He said that suspending chapter chairmen or any member is a recipe for crisis which not do the party any good.

Members of the APC were unanimous in the rejection of the purported Congress with most of them saying that they are patiently waiting for what the National hierarchy of the party would do to stem the ugly trend.
