During an interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on Thursday last week, President Muhammadu Buhari declared that He spoke against the backdrop of a debate over a number of issues surrounding the APC convention, which is set to take place in February. When asked if his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), would lose the 2023 presidential election to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or another opposition party, President Muhammadu Buhari responded that if the ruling party did not get its act together.

President Buhari Stance On APC Winning The Next Elections

The statement, which comes from President Buhari, who is a direct beneficiary of the united legacy parties that became the All Progressives Congress (APC) and wrested power from the opposition PDP in the 2015 general elections, is a serious warning.

However, beyond the party’ s convention, there are a number of difficult issues or roadblocks that the party must overcome in order to remain in power in 2023. While the upcoming party’ s convention will act as a litmus test to identify whether region of the country will produce a formidable presidential candidate, hints have surfaced in recent weeks that the South- west is in the driver’ s seat.

Many political gladiators from the South- West have expressed an interest in competing for the nation’ s top political position. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo, and Governor Fayemi of the state of Ekiti are among those that need special mention. A large number of political organizations have pushed for their election. Bola Tinubu, on the other hand, is a tough nut to crack when it comes to the presidential race. A ” running partner, ” as he refers to it, is one of his perceived vulnerabilities.

The political commentators have projected that if Tinubu wins the party’ s presidential nomination and chooses his running mate from among the Northern Christian minority, this will influence Northern Muslim votes in his favor. What happens if Tinubu chooses a Muslim as his running mate? Given the fact that the country is polarised along religious fault lines, it is unlikely to result in election success. These are some of the albatross that can be found on the Tinubu. The APC’ s chances of winning the 2023 presidential election are minimal unless Tinubu, who has been playing the role of a king maker, steps down and promotes one of his supporters.

PDP chieftain Expresses Assurance Of Winning Gubernatorial Election

Dotun Babayemi, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, has stated that the party will form the next administration in the state if it wins the next election.

While saying this, he admonished all eligible voters in the state to keep their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) safe and to use them to effect the good change in the state’ s leadership that they wished during the July election.

Dotun Babayemi, a PDP gubernatorial contestant from Osun State, offered this guarantee during the screening of the party’ s gubernatorial aspirants held on Wednesday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.

All six of the gubernatorial hopefuls who have announced their interest in the race and who have been screened by the party, according to Babayemi, are capable of performing better than any candidate who would be fielded by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, he said.

Aside from that, the gubernatorial candidate stated that if his party is elected to power in late 2022, it will prioritize pushing the state ahead, particularly in the areas of industrialization and youth participation as well as education, agriculture, and health care.

Even as he pledged to abide by the PDP’ s final decision on its flag bearer for the Osun governorship race in 2022, Babayemi expressed confidence that the screening committee for the party’ s flag bearer would be meticulous in its duty before reporting to the National Working Committee.

” I am convinced that the screening committee of the party will be meticulous in the work that has been assigned to it before reporting back to the National Working Committee of the party, ” he says.

The elders caucus in Osun State and the party’ s leadership at the national, zonal, and state levels, all of whom are truly concerned about the welfare of the people, have my confidence that they will make the right option. ” I pledge to adhere by the party’ s final decision on who will serve as its flagbearer, ” says the candidate.
