Be Alert And Try To Protect Your Children; We Won’t Be Able To Secure All Schools — Nigerian Government Warns Parents

Nigerians, especially parents, are being urged by the federal government to be vigilant in order to prevent school attacks and kidnappings.

According to Weetalknaija.com.ng, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education, reported this in an interview with The PUNCH on Monday, suggesting that the government could not secure every school in the country.

According to him, the government has instructed schools to notify the nearest security agency of any security threat.

“Eternal vigilance is the price of security,” he said. Every country is always worried about its citizens’ knowledge. The federal government is unable to protect every home. All must maintain vigilance. We’ve sent this letter to all of our schools so that, no matter where they are, they’ll know who to call if there’s a threat.”

Nwajiuba also said that nearly all of the country’s schools were fenced. “With the exception of a few state schools, almost all schools in Nigeria, whether private or government-owned, are fenced.

“As you might be aware, even though you build a barrier, bandits have been known to enter through gates.

“As a consequence, perimeter fencing isn’t very effective on its own. The thing is security consciousness. If you hear where any of them are being taken, you’ll realize it’s a matter of self-awareness and neighborhoods notifying officials in a timely manner.”
