Betta Edu Commissions UNICAL Isolation Center To combat Suspicious COVID-19 Cases

Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu, has commissioned a 20-bed Isolation Center in the citadel of learning at the University of Calabar to lock horns with suspicious cases of the dreadful virus, as codenamed, COVID-19.

Commissioning the centre, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu, extolled the VC proactive strides to combat the global pandemic, she averred that, there is now a declined figures of COVID-19 cases across the Federation. The Commissioner, also, maintained that, the proactive development of the UNICAL Boss will grant hope to guardians in their abode.

Hear her: “This will give hope to parents that their children are in safe hands also, the students can fully concentrate on their studies. “The campus will also serve as a sample collection centre and students who want to get tested will undergo the test without being charged”, She assured.

The Commissioner, proponent for a transfer of control on additional COVID-19 isolation centers at strategic locations in the campus rather than a single one. She however assured the committee that, with the level of sensitization in the institution, students’ will be conscious effectively on Covid-19 preventive measures.

Speaking earlier, The VC, Professor Florence Obi, affirmed her committed to ensure that there is zero outbreak or symptoms of any Covid-19 related cases on campus.

She also emphasized on the University proactive measures to safeguard the Managements, Staffs and Students as well as, sensitization issued to students’ stating that, “the University stand out as one of the few institutions to put in place sensitive equipment at strategic locations on campus,” while accosting the risk undertook to fully re-opened the University academic activities.

The isolation centre Commissioned by the Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Betta Edu, is situated at the University of Calabar, Malabor Republic, a double tent comprising of 10 beds for both male and female sufferer.
