Following the deaths of ISWAP commanders in engagements with the Nigerian military, ISIS HQ in Iraq ordered the restructure.

According to PRNigeria, Wali (Leaders), Qa’ids (Chiefs), commanders, and chiefs of units convened an emergency meeting.

Abba Gana alias Ba-Lawan was reappointed as ISWAP head just six months after the Shura council removed him for lack of confidence.

Ba-Lawan will head the struggle for the Islamic Caliphate of Africa (Wilaya of Africa), which is backed by ISIS and spans parts of Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.

In addition, the ISWAP council established Mobile Courts and rules to bring all rebel operations and groups under one umbrella.

To prolong the battle against countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, the organisation has stepped up efforts to build two Wilayas (Caliphates) near Lake Chad and the Sambisa forest.

Also, three years after residents were forced out of Marte, Abadam, Kukawa, and Guzamala for allegedly spying for Nigerian troops, the prohibition on fishing and farming activities in the Lake Chad area was removed.

As part of the management of trade and agricultural activities, new taxes and levies have been placed on the Borno villages.

ISWAP members will now collect N5,000 monthly from traders and farmers, in addition to other levies. Fishermen will pay N2,000 per bag of fish.

The military seems unconcerned about the sect’s recent efforts, according to an intelligence officer with Operation Hadin Kai.

“Despite the purported reunion of Boko Haram and ISWAP factions, the destruction of their strongholds has been continued by coordinated numerous attacks by NAF aircraft.

“Various terrorist camps in Sabon Tumbu, Jibularam, Kwalaram, Timbuktu Triangle, and Parisu, as well as other locations around Lake Chad, were targeted in the operations.

“Bombardments in the Lamboa woodland, Bula Yobe, Jabullam, Yauma Wango, Mainok, and Dikwa axes killed ISWAP fighters and commanders including Umar Tela, Modu Sulum, and one-eyed Modu Kennami.

“Terrorist camp escapees have surrendered to troops. We’ve apprehended a number of well-known informants who were leaking information about security movements and formations,” the person stated.
