SaharaReporters learnt that the airstrikes began on Thursday noon, and are related to the military’s determination to dislodge the operatives of the Eastern Security Network who are said to have forest strongholds.

In Orlu communities in Imo State, military fighter jets suspected to be deployed by the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force are carrying out aerial attacks, which has exacerbated the already built-up tension in the areas.

SaharaReporters heard that the airstrikes began on Thursday noon, and are related to the military’s determination to dislodge the operatives of the Eastern Security Network who are said to have forest strongholds.

With new stress and fear building in the neighborhoods, a video of the aerial bombings on Thursday surfaced.

In our places, Nigerian soldiers are currently conducting aerial attacks. There could be many innocent lives lost. A community leader told SaharaReporters that they are possibly searching for ESN operatives who are checking the activities of killer Fulani herdsmen.

The homes and market places of people could be affected. In Orlu, we do not need aircraft. In Niger State, they should go and find the stolen school pupils, said another angry resident.

“I’ve got this video. There was an aircraft firing shots probably in a nearby bush. Very irresponsible of the airforce; civilians are all over the place,” another person said.

SaharaReporters last December announced that the Nigerian Army deployed battle helicopters, gun trucks, and soldiers to search some suspicious forests in the South-East states where the ESN, launched by Nnamdi Kanu, was said to be camping.

SaharaReporters also claimed that the military search had been going on for days, and had no time limit, as the army was working on “orders from above.”

A video of drones and hidden cameras supposed to have been mounted by the ESN recorded the helicopters of the Nigerian Army and their vehicles and soldiers looking for potential arrests at the ESN base.

On 12 December, Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, launched the ESN, saying that, like Amotekun in the South-West, the regional security outfit will help fight crime and crime.

The Nigerian Army that is supposed to fight against Boko Haram has been seen looking everywhere for the Eastern Security Network Team camp. But they have forgotten that they deal with sophisticated people. There are cameras and drones monitoring them everywhere,’ said an official.
