BREAKING!!! Multiple Explosion Rocks Abuja Near DSS Office
On Wednesday, panic gripped the Ushafa community in Abuja after an explosion near the Department of State Services (DSS) institute and around the exit pipe of the only dam supplying water to the entire FCT residence.
The explosion, which happened around 2:00 p.m., shook the community to its heart, especially those in the Usuma Dam quarters and the DSS institute within the axis.
Some farmers who narrowly avoided being killed in the blast pointed to the quarry site near Jordan FM, the area’s only radio station, revealing that the quarry had resumed full operations amid petitions and inquiries from various quarters about their suspected illegal mining and the danger it would pose to the entire community.
The quarry firm, whose owners are alleged to be influential government officials, has been excavating the area since early 2020, despite concerns from the DSS and Water Board about the area’s detrimental effects on the environment and public land. Although the DSS is worried about the security threat posed by frequent rock blasting and excessive noise in the region, the FCT Water Board has raised concerns about the effects of a quarry located only a few meters from the dam’s lower portion, which could cause a terrible disaster.
Water is supplied by the Lower Usuma Dam to FCT residents, including the Aso Villa.
The location of the quarry, according to a source at the DSS institute who did not want to be identified, is illegal, threatening the institute’s existence and posing a general security danger to the FCT due to the continuous blasting that would be coming from there.
Mr Henry, a resident of Usuma Dam quarters, said his wife and children were at home when the explosion happened. According to him, the chaos caused by the explosion may have resulted in another tragedy. “Many people came out of their houses in terror and ran to the Dam until they were stopped,” he said.
Mr. Ayinda Thomas, a Gbagi resident, said that many petitions had been filed over the illegal miners’ activities, claiming that some people had leased the land to the quarry company a few years earlier.
