BREAKING: Tension As House of Reps Dares Buhari, Suspend $22.79bn Loan Consideration Indefinitely

Nigerians has reacted to the indefinite suspension of the loan through a call-in radio program of the City FM station located at Agidingbi in Lagos.

Most of the callers praised the House Members for courageously suspending the loan sighting examples of dire consequences amidst the oil price crash in the international market.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives stood down the debate on the $22.7 billion loan request by President Muhammed Buhari in order to clarify controversies raised by the breakdown of the loan request by the President.

However, within 24 hours the Speaker, House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, announced that it has indefinitely suspended the consideration of the $22.79bn external loan request by the President.

In the aforementioned, the House listed the report by its Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management on the 2016–2018 Federal Government External Borrowing (Rolling) Plan as the last item for consideration on the order paper for Wednesday’s proceeding.

The House Media Adviser to the Finance Minister, Mr Yunusa Abdullahi, declined to comment on the issue when requested to do so. But Speaker Gbajabiamila emphatically stated that “We will step that down for today, asking the Chairman, Rules and Business, Abubakar Fulata, to move for the standing down.

You will recall that last week the senate approved the loan but the PDP opposition Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe protested.
