No fewer than 10,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, on Saturday in Igueben defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors who are from the ten (10) wards in Igueben Local Government Area (LGA), were received by leaders of the PDP in the LGA.
The Insight reports that the PDP LGA Chairman Mr Liberty Ugboh, while presenting Party membership card to the defectors, thanked them for their foresight in joining the PDP, and assured them of equal treatment like any bonafide member of the party.
Those who defected from APC to PDP include the Edo State Honorable Commissioner For Infrastructure, Mr John Osagie Inegbedion, The Executive Chairman Igueben Local Govt, Hon. (Bldr) Dr Josie Ogedegbe (JP), Member representing Igueben constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Ephraim Aluebhosele, Edo State Deputy Chief of Staff, Barr Kingsley Ehijamusor, Eson of Igueben Kingdom, Queen Sarah Eluojierior (SA gender).
Others are, all Senior Special Assistants and all Special Assistants to the Governor, the Local Govt VICE Chairman, Hon Pat. Oboh, Secretary to the Local Government, Special Adviser and all Special Assistants to the Local Govt Chairman, other political appointees and APC leaders in the ten (10) wards.
Speaking on behalf of defectors, The Edo Honorable Commissioner For Infrastructure Mr John Osagie Inegbedion said, their decision to join the PDP in the state was as a result of Governor Godwin Obaseki leadership style in restoring peace and tranquility to the state and the infrastructural developments the Governor has brought to the State.
The Executive Chairman, Igueben Local Govt. Hon (Bldr) Dr Josie Ogedegbe JP, said after a due consultations, they have decided to join PDP for good. He urged the people of Igueben LGA to support Gov Godwin Obaseki reelection.
In a reaction, a leader of PDP in Igueben LGA, a former two term Executive Chairman Igueben Local Govt and immediate past Secretary PDP Edo State, Hon (Barr) Felix Omi Imoisili, , said after a careful study of the performance of the governor in office in three and half years, they decided and resolved that the governor should be returned in September 2020.
Hon Felix, said the people of Edo Central Senatorial district have come to a conclusion that the governor is given a second term because of his performance in office. Citing the Esan Agenda as collective aspirations not only for Esan land but Edo State in general that the governor had assured. He noted that the gathering was a reunion with old friends to demonstrate total support for Governor Godwin Obaseki reelection bid.
Other party leaders present at the meeting are, Engr. Oreye destiny,Edo state youth leader, Chief Hillary Ekhoye, The Iyase Of Igueben, Mr D S Inegbeboh, Barr Anthony Ehileboh, Mrs Isi Okpeku amongst others.
