C/River Naval War College : Ayade express readiness to create enabling environment

The Cross River State Governor, Sir Ben Ayade has assured Nigerian Navy of its determination to provide the enabling environment necessary for the achievement of the mission of the Naval War College.

Sir Ayade disclose this in a goodwill message during the graduation ceremony of Naval Warfare Course 3 of the Naval War College Nigeria, held at Vice Admiral U. O. Jibrin Auditorium, Eastern Naval Command Calabar.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Professor Ivara Ejemot Esu noted that Calabar is a city rich in Naval history and culture, home of hospitality and enormous tourism potentials.

He expressed appreciation to the federal government and the Nigerian Navy for deeming it fit to site the prestigious college in the state believing that, the college community is already enjoying the serenity and hospitability of the good people of the state.

The Governor Maintained that, the global security environment is witnessing profound change and challenge by emerging threats, advancement in technology and effects of globalization, as well as human development which can only be professionally handled by extensive manpower development.

Sir Ayade commeneded the Nigerian Navy for taking the bold step in exposing its professional levels commanders to Naval Warfare training at the highest level with the conviction that, the college would equally profer workable solutions to the contemporary security challenges confronting the nation.

In a graduation speech, the minister of defence, Bashir Magashi, represented by General A.G. Olonisakin (Chief of Defence Staff, Nigerian Army Medal), revealed that, the world over, war colleges holds a pride of place as a centre of excellence for military operational leadership and express delight that the Naval War College Nigeria has remained focused and abiding in its universal values.

The minister assured the Naval War College of the Defence Headquarters’ support in the training needs towards achieving the guiding objectives which focuses on national security, military strategy, threat strategy and operational applications which are essential for successful military operations.

Earlier in a welcome address, the college commandant, Vice Admiral A. O. Ayobanjo informed the participants that the Naval War College was establish in May, 2017 with the mission to develop senior Navy leaders and equivalents from other services as operstional level commanders with thorough appreciation of complex national security problems, who are prepared to make sound decisions in the application of maritime force as a policy option.

The commandant noted that, so far, the college has trained and graduated twenty nine (29) officers of the Armed Forces, while eighteen (18) participants from the Naval War Course 3 are been presented for graduation.

The graduation ceremony of the Naval College Warfare course 3 had in attendance the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, Chairman Senate Committee on Navy, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, Service Chiefs, Senior military officers and retired officers.

The event featured, course highlights, conferment of fellow of the Naval War College, presentation of certificates/awards, presentation of sourvenirs, award of Distingushed Fellow of the Naval College and group photograp.
