Christmas: Hon. Mfon Bassey donates food, cash to street sweepers (Photos)

Hon. Mfon Bassey, Commissioner for Environment in Cross River, has donated bags of rice and cash to street sweepers in Calabar.

Addressing over 400 street sweepers at the Ministry’s headquarters in Calabar, the Commissioner said that their welfare was paramount to him in view of their contributions to the neatness of the state capital, Calabar.

He said that in the season of Christmas, it was important for him to celebrate with street sweepers and put smiles on their faces.

He said that the gesture will give them a sense of belonging that they are been loved and remembered for their hard work.

According to him, his emergence as Commissioner will add value to the wellbeing of the workers through timely payments of their salaries, provision of security for them at the early hours of the morning, provision of working tools including reflective vest among others.

He assured them that his office was open to all complaints and suggestions with a view to move the ministry forward.

“I cannot celebrate the Christmas period without touching the lives of the women who wake up early in the morning to sweep and keep Calabar clean.

“I want to tell you that I appreciate all your efforts and corporation in keeping Calabar clean and green. I will continue to liaise with you for suggestions and complaints”, he said.

Responding on behalf of the women, Mrs Kate Okon, said it was the first time they were receiving such gifts and money from a Commissioner in the ministry.

Okon prayed God to bless the Commissioner and strengthen him for the good and development of the ministry, adding that the rice and money will go a long way for them within this yuletide season.
