Cleaner Calabar: Betta Edu shuns ‘Weather’, storms streets with 40 students for sanitation

The former Director General of Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, (CRSPHCDA), Dr Betta Edu in her usual manner and her huge desire to see Cross River State remain Clean and Green, mobilized Cross River State Students to support the State General Sanitation Exercise which took place yesterday, Saturday, July 27, 2019.

Dr Betta Edu who was ably represented by one of her aides, Engr Chris Ntem led a Cross Section of about 40 Students for a clean up exercise in line with the State’s Compulsory Sanitation Exercise.

Addressing the Students before the Clean up exercise, Engr Chris Ntem on behalf of his Boss, Dr Betta Edu thanked all the Students for turning up in their number despite the short notice and the poor weather condition.

He extended her warm regards and informed the Students that she’s doing this not for any personal reasons but because as a medical Doctor and a health oriented person she knows the importance of a clean environment as the exercise will help prevent outbreak of diseases like malaria, cholera, etc and this will help the State maintain her usual Clean and Green nature.

The exercise which started at exactly 7:45am saw the Students cleaning up the drainages along eleven eleven round about down to stadium as both sides of the drainages were cleaned up, grasses were being cut down and raked, papers, used sachets of water, broken bottles, rubbers, etc were all picked up.

The Students showed passion, commitment and dedication in carrying out the exercise even under the heavy rain. The Departmental President of Community Health and the SUG Director of Social of COHTECH expressed their happiness for being part of the exercise indicating that they’ve always thought of a possible way of thanking Dr Betta Edu for the numerous things she has done for CRSPHCDA. They also thanked His Excellency Sen Ben Ayade and suggested that every last Saturday of the month be set aside for such exercise.

At the end of the exercise, Engr Chris Ntem thanked the Students for their massive turn up irrespective of the heavy down pour, he applauded them for showing Commitment and Dedication. In his words; “I must really appreciate you all on behalf of my Boss Dr Betta Edu who is unavoidably absent. She’s very occupied that’s why she couldn’t join us, she’s so very proud of you all and she appreciates you for coming. In her usual support for His Excellency’s administration and his drive for a Clean and Green CRS is why she decided to carry out this exercise. She wishes to appreciate you all with a little token for refreshment and demobilization. Thank you all for your show of love and support.”
