Confusion As FG Speaks On Imposing Another Total Lockdown From Next Week

Federal Government of Nigeria talked about enforcing next week’s complete lockout.

WeetalknaijaBlog announced that reports of an imminent complete lockdown from next week have been debunked by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.

This follows Thursday’s circulation of a WhatsApp broadcast on social media.

FG speaks about enforcing next week’s absolute lockout

Dr Sani Aliyu, the PTF National Coordinator, maintains that the federal government is mindful of the economic consequences of a new lockdown.

“We are aware of a fake WhatsApp message that we’ve declared a lockdown in the country,” he said. It’s simply not true. I call upon the public of Nigeria to ignore this post, please, and to continue with regular activities.

I also call on the public to comply with non-pharmaceutical initiatives, including public wearing of face masks, washing hands, and maintaining physical distance.

There is a proven way that we send our messages to the public when it comes to infection control, including declarations. So, on WhatsApp, please ignore what is going around.

Recall that the Nigerian government has already announced that from Monday, January 18, schools will still reopen nationwide.
