Convention 2022: APC Is Not Barr. Mary/Ntufam Hilliard Eta’s Family Farm

The National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the election of its substantive national officers ahead of the 2023 general elections have been slated for March 26, 2022 at the Eagles Square in Abuja, the nation’s Federal capital territory.

To ensure that the objectives of the National Convention succeeds, and every state gets a sense of belonging, the party has adopted a sharing formula that has been accepted and adopted by the chapters in the 36 states, and Abuja.

However, the position of National Women Leader that is zoned to Cross River State has been trailed by controversies to the extent of brewing rancor in the state chapter of the party despite the emergence of Dr. Betta Edu, as the consensus candidate for the position in a meeting brokered by the the party, chaired by the state chairman of the party, Barr. Alphonsus Eba.

No sooner than a video clip on the nomination of Betta Edu emerged in the social media and traditional media that the news also emanated to the effect that another woman from the state, Barr. Mary Ekpere Eta, has enlisted to run for the same position by purchasing the nomination form.
Though it is Barr. Mary Ekpere Eta’s prerogative to seek to occupy any position she craves, in the prevailing circumstances, exercising such prerogative is misplaced because it is already causing serious division in the party to the point of threatening power shift to the Southern Senatorial District in 2023 where she is married.

It is an open secret that the emergence of Dr. Betta Edu, from the Central Senatorial District of the state, as the consensus candidate for the position of National Women Leader was informed by the fact of the zoning of the Governorship position for the 2023 to the Southern senatorial district based on the wise counsel of the state Governor and leader of the APC in the South- South.
It is therefore an aberration for Barr. Mary Ekpere Eta, who is from the Southern senatorial district to cast her hat into the ring to vie for a position that has already been zoned to the central because of her inordinate and self-centered ambition.
For those who do not know, Barr. Mary Ekpere Eta is married to the former National Vice Chairman, South Ssouth of the APC, Ntufam Hilliard Eta, who is from Kasuk Qua Clan, Calabar Municipal Local Government Area, Cross River South Senatorial District.

What Mary Ekpere Eta has done by picking the form to contest for the post of APC National Women Leader must be seriously condemned because it is a very bad precedent that can compromise the entire zoning arrangements that have been emplaced for power sharing as we head towards 2023 general elections.
The truth is that by her action, Mary Ekpere Eta is not only defying the decision of the APC in the state that Dr. Beta Edu should fly their flag at the national convention for the position, but is encouraging decent and rebellion against constituted authorities of the party in Cross River State, and the South- South led by Sir Ben Ayade.
Barr. Mary Ekpere Eta, has also by her action practically set the South against the Central and vice versa, except she retraces her steps by pulling out of the race for the APC National Women Leader.

By the way, of what use will her occupation of the post of National Women Leader be to the APC women in Cross River State? When she was the DG of the National Women Commission, what did the women of Cross River State benefit under her watch?
What were the tangible benefits she brought to the APC women in Cross River State?
What positive contributions did she make towards the uplifting of the APC in the state?
Mary Ekpere Eta only served herself and her family during those years when she held sway.
Incidentally, her husband Ntufam Hillard Eta, who was also occupying a very important position in the national leadership of the APC only served himself and immediate family as he brought no benefit to any individual, the APC in the state, talk less of Cross River State as a whole.

Mary and Hillard have had everything good from the APC and never cared about others. Mary Ekpere Eta should know that the APC is not their family farmland. The Eta’s have had their turn. Now is the turn of others.
This time is Dr. Betta Edu’s time.
We must support Betta Edu for the post of National Women Leader of the APC because her credible performance in all the public responsibilities given to her speaks well of her.

Apart from distinguishing herself as a responsible public servant, Betta Edu has proven beyond any reasonable doubts that she is a humanitarian and philanthropist.
Women, the APC in the state, and indeed Cross River State will benefit immensely with Dr. Betta Edu in the saddle as National Women Leader of the APC. Let her support grow.

Long Live CRS Women.
Long Live Nigerian Women.
Long Live APC.
THE TIME IS NOW.
