1. My dear brothers, sisters and friends.

2. We are all aware of the presence of a global pandemic, the Coronavirus also known as COVID-19, which is rampaging the entire world.

3. According to the statistics released by the World Health Organisation (WHO), as at today, Saturday 4 March, 2020, over one million people in the world have been affected and nearly 60,000 people have died from the devastating effects of COVID-19.

4. In Nigeria, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced that there are 230 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country while four people have died from complications arising from the Virus as at Friday, 3 March 2020.

5. These numbers are growing everyday.

6. Both the WHO and the NCDC have said that people can stay safe and not contract COVID-19 by adhering to the following protocols:
1. Observe high personal hygiene by washing your hands regularly with soap
2. In the absence of soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers
3. Observe social distancing ie no handshakes, no hugs or embrace, keep a safe distance of at least 6ft from the next person when talking or interacting with them
4. If you reside in one of the areas which is currently on lockdown – FCT, Lagos and Ogun states – please obey government directives to stay at home

7. Though no confirmed case of COVID-19 has been reported in our State or Constituency, I am to appeal that you obey directives of His Excellency the Executive Governor, Sir Ben Ayade, regarding wearing of face masks and other protocols issued to safeguard the state from the deadly Virus.

8. Please take note that there is currently no cure for COVID-19; therefore no one should resort to self-medication or drug abuse in the name of trying to avoid the virus.

9. Above all, please let us commit ourselves to prayers for there is nothing that is beyond God.

10. Thank you so much and please stay safe.

11. God bless Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency.

Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba, MHR
House of Representatives,
National Assembly Complex,
