The newly appointed Commissioner for Agriculture & Natural Resources, Hon. Okon Owuna has affirmed that Cross River State has the best Agricultural facilities in the country.

The Commissioner, stated this recently during a courtesy visit paid him by a team from National and State APPEALS office shortly before embarking on a facility training inspection of the Songhai farms Itigidi, adding that outstanding agricultural facilities such as the rice mill, cocoa processing factory, the ultra-modern rice seedling multiplication plant the Songhai farms amongst others, are vital prove that Cross River is a place for Agriculture in Nigeria.

Hon. Owuna, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary while on tour, stated that the meagre allocation from the federation is a pointer that the way forward for the state is to fall back on Agriculture. He maintained that the Government have put all modalities in place to ensure that the Songhai farms Itigidi serve the purpose it was founded for.

He stressed that the new look of the Ministry of Agriculture will be replicated in all agric facilities across the state because Cross River, is poised towards taking the lead in Agriculture.

Likewise, the National Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist APPEALS, Mr. Adesoye Adekunle said the aim of their visit to the state was to reevaluate Songhai training institute to ascertain the level of preparedness of the state towards the training of the women and youth beneficiaries of the APPEALS project.

Mr. Adesoye, listed the areas of concern as follows: Accommodation, Security staffing, learning areas (class room, halls), leisure and recreational facilities, value chain amongst others.

Also, the Special Adviser Songhai farms Hon. Wilfred Inah, told the visiting team that preparations are on, to ensure a hitch free training session for beneficiaries while assuring that there will be intensive security, vast accommodation, recreational facility, learning facility, a sick bay, constant water/electricity supply amongst other basic conveniences that will make the training worthful.
