Cross River By-Election: Lukpata Picks Party Nomination Form, Optimistic Of Victory

 

Rt. Hon. Ogana Lukpata (Ph.D), is one of the leading aspirants in the upcoming Senatorial By-Election in Cross River State.

Lukpata who is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday said he was optimistic that he would clinch the senatorial seat victory in the upcoming Cross River Northern Senatorial District By-Election.

Lukpata spoke with Weetalknaija Daily Post at his home residence, Calabar, shortly after the PDP nomination and expression of interest forms for the senatorial district election were presented to him by the leadership and members of his campaign team, “Lukpata Senatorial Campaign Organisation” (LUSCO).

He expressed his belief that the upcoming election is a ‘win-win’ contest for him, adding that PDP is a party that believes in democracy and that the party would do all it could to ensure the will of the people prevailed in the by-election.

“Whatever it takes for the will of the people to prevail is what we will do within all legal boundaries,” he said.

Lukpata said he had the intention of offering quality representation for the people of Cross River State and Nigerians at large, hence his aspiration.

Reacting to the demise of Late Senator Rose Oko, Lukpata said:-

“We have taken this opportunity. It is unfortunate that the opportunity has to come in a manner that it did. May the soul of the departed rest in peace.

“We have no choice than to carry on to give our people that are still living the best that we can.

“That is why I am contesting to give our people the best that we can in all of the five Local Government Areas that constitute Cross River Northern Senatorial District; that is, Yala, Obudu, Ogoja, Bekwarra, Obanliku,” he said.

Lukpata said that his mission was to ensure that laws negatively affecting people were amended, when he is elected as a senator by Oct. 31.

“We will be providing quality representation for all Nigerians, especially my people of Cross River State, and specifically the people of Cross River North,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Oct. 31 to conduct by-election for the Cross River Northern Senatorial District election.

 

This follows the death of Senator Rose Oko, until her death on March 23, 2020, Rose Oko was representing the district at the senate.
