Cross River North Senate Bye-Election: Stephen Odey Speaks on Accepting Supreme Court Decision
Stephen Odey, the embattled SUBEB Chairman who was sacked yesterday by the Supreme Court as the Senator representing the Cross River Northern Senatorial District, thanked all his supporters, colleagues, family members and well-wishers for their unflinching support and solidarity.
He calls on all his overwhelming supporters and the good people of Cross River North to keep calm and not engage anyone in their problems.
In view of the false rumor in some parts of the media, especially in the social media, that the erudite and scholarly Senator representing the citizens of Cross River North was removed by the Supreme Court as a Senator, some clarification has become necessary to debunk it.
The Supreme Court ruling on Thursday February 25 Feb. 2021 did not declare the CRN Senate seat vacant, nor did the Apex Court invalidate the victory of Senator Stephen Odey as the legitimate winner of the by-election of the CRN Senatorial District on December 5, 2020, nor did it order his replacement with anyone.
Let it be made clear that there was no consequential order of any kind that should justify such a twisted truth, according to the court ruling.
Desperate individuals will continue to rejoice, as always, what the court did not give, announce and order.
Senator Odey, as the People’s Senator, remains unruffled, resolved and committed to performing his constitutional duty as he calls all his friendly supporters to abide by the law and to obey their daily routine as God is faithfully in charge.
Finally, please be aware that at this stage, if the case before it so merits, only the election tribunal has the power to dismiss Dr Odey as a Senator.
