Cross River North Senatorial Seat: Jarigbe Agom To Be Sworn In September 15
Senator-elect Jarigbe Agom, barring any last-minute modifications, When the Senate returns from recess on September 15, Jarigbe will be sworn in. For more than a year, Jarigbe and Odey fought for the seat, travelling from one court to the next. Jarigbe eventually triumphed in the duel. Odey has already conceded defeat and indicated that he has surrendered because he has no other court to approach.
The elections petition tribunal had ruled that Jarigbe was the rightful occupant of the seat. Odey, however, appealed to the court of appeals, but his case was dismissed. Surprisingly, he went back to the court of appeals to seek judicial review of the decision, but the court dismissed his second appeal.
TNN learn that all is now set for the swearing-in of Jarigbe who has since been issued a second certificate of return by INEC, in line with the court of appeal order.
The senate president, Senator Ahmed Lawan has already given indications that Jarigbe would be sworn-in as the senate resumes from recess.
Jarigbe’s seat in the House of Representatives where he is at the moment, will become vacant as soon as he takes the oath of office as senator.
