Cross River state Government Expresses Government Determination To Work With FRSC
The Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara Ejemot Esu has expressed Governments sincere determination to work with the Federal Road Safety Corps in the task of instilling in the youths and drivers a sense of responsibility and appreciation of the consequences of reckless behavior/driving on the highway.
Professor Esu stated this while flagging off the 2019, Ember Months’ special patrol held at Etim Edem Motor Park, Calabar.
The Deputy Governor noted that, festive seasons are usually characterized by increased volume of vehicular traffic and road users on their way home, business and work or visiting loved ones.
He remarked that, the Federal Road Safety Corps has contributed immensely to the growth and sustenance of road safety in Nigeria through constant education, sensitization and enlightenment of drivers.
Professor Esu maintained that, the task of averting the ugly trends of road traffic crashes is rooted in the conviction that, everybody born into this Country has a right to life with all facilities intact and not a life of an amputee or one afflicted by oral or visual handicap as a result of road accidents.
The Deputy Governor charged drivers to avoid excessive speeding, making calls while driving, overloading, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, dangerous overtaking, drivers fatigue among others.
The occasion which featured a mega rally has as its theme “Road Safety is Presence of Mind; Road Traffic Crash is Absence of Mind, Stay Alert, Stay Alive”.
Earlier, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, State Command, Commander Chidiebere Nkwonta intimated that, the event is an annual event designed by the FRSC management in her continued search for solutions to the lingering problems of deaths on our roads especially towards the end of the year.
Mr. Nkwonta explained that, this underscores the need for FRSC as an organization to continually create avenues for interaction and sensitization of the motoring public and relevant stakeholders on proper use of the highways to make them safe for all of us.
The Sector Commander therefore, called on all and sundry to support the worthy course of keeping deaths off our roads through collective commitment, time, energy and resources to compliment the efforts of the Regular and Special Marshals.
The event featured Goodwill messages from relevant Unions and Agencies, a play let by the NYSC/Road Safety Club Members and was attended by Service Commanders, Paramilitary, some Permanent Secretaries and Traditional Rulers among others.
