CRS LG polls : Simon Utsu should constrain himself to suggestions on who becomes Cal. Mun. Chairman, says Vincent Ansa

The entire populace of Calabar Municipality are in sync with the celebration, excitement & euphoria that attend His Excellency Sir, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade’s directive to CROSIEC for the conduct of local government elections in 2020.

We are optimistic that this is a wonderful, populist & people oriented initiative of His Excellency & we salute his digital vision.

Permit me however as an indigenous cal. Mun. citizen to state unequivocally that the local government elections for the office of chairmen & councillors to represent various local governments & council wards indicates intrinsically the local content & by implication the people of Cal. Mun will have the constitutional right to throw up a local leadership that meets not only their local needs, but a reflection of the Mayoralty status of Cal. Municipality. As a corollary, the people of Cal. Mun are educated, experienced & imbued with sufficient expertise & capacity to choose without fear or favor the leadership that best suits her dreams, drive, aspiration & purpose.

In the strength of the above, I consider the publication by one Simon Utsu a Social Media Analyst & blogger, propagating the aspiration of Mr. Stanley Nsemo for the office of Chairman, Cal. Municipality as an affront to the political & socio economic sensibilities of the people of Cal. Mun, whose right, duty & obligation it is to determine for themselves a leadership most suitable for their needs & aspiration.

In the light of the above, I on behalf of other indigenes of this great local government insist that the said Simon Utsu being a Cross Riverian should refrain, restrain & constrain himself to suggestions on who leads his people & certainly not who leads Cal. Municipality. This advice is contingent on the fact that Mr. Utsu cannot in reality connect with the socio-political realities that pervades Cal. Mun politics.

For instance, he may not be aware that the hard won peace & harmony that has been the hallmark of municipal politics is hinged on the zoning formula & in this instance, his projected choice, Mr. Nsemo falls short of the zoning formula. The Chairmanship of Cal. Mun by the zoning accord goes to zone 2(made up of Ward 6 – 10), while the House of Assembly goes to zone 1(Ward 1- 5). The sad twist & the painful irony is that the preferred candidate of the author, Mr Stanley Nsemo without prejudice is not qualified to contest this election as he is from zone 1( Ward 1-5 ), where the sitting House of Assembly member, Rt. Hon. (Ntufam)Efa Esua hails from.

To take it a little further, zone 1 (Ward 1 – 5) boast of Rt. Hon.(Ntufam) Eta Mbora MHR, National Assembly, Ntufam Edim Inok (State Chairman, PDP). WHAT OFFENCE HAS ZONE 2 COMMITTED? IS IT THAT WE DON’T HAVE CAPABLE HANDS, THAT PERSONS ARE NOW TO BE IMPORTED FROM FROM ZONE 1? Mr. Nsemo is a registered & active PDP Member in Ward 5 till date. He contested House of Assembly primaries in 2015. How come the sudden agitation/movement. WE NEED PEACE, NOT WAR.
