The Cross River State Government says it is ready to collaborate with the Government of Ireland in the area of humanitarian situations in the State.
The Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara Ejemot Esu, OFR, stated this in Government House when he received in audience the Deputy Head of Mission Embassy of Ireland, Mr Ronan Mullin.
Professor Esu expressed gratitude to the Head of Mission, Embassy of Ireland for choosing the State for its Humanitarian interventions through the provision of water, sanitation, and health facilities to internally Displayed Persons-IDP, arising from farmers- herders clash, flooding and influx of Cameronian refugees.
He maintained that, the Health Centres in the affected areas need to be expanded to accommodate the refugees and the host Communities.
Professor Esu stated that, the State Government is willing to give all the necessary support to the United Nation Humanitarian Commission for Refugees- UNHCR, through the State Emergency Management Agency-SEMA to alleviate the sufferings of the affected Communities.
The Deputy Governor remarked that, Government is receptive to Countries ready to tackle its refugee crisis and called on other Humanitarian Organizations and Countries to emulate Ireland example.
Earlier, the Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Ireland, Mr Ronan Million intimated that, their mission to the State was to assess the current Humanitarian situation in the Cameronian Refugees Camps.
Mr. Mullins explained that, the Embassy is committed to promoting local ownership and capacity building by prioritizing partnership that reinforce local actors and processes in the context of humanitarian emergencies.
He said the Ireland Embassy will continue to partner the European Union and the United Nations Agencies in the provision of essential amenities for the refugees.
The Deputy head of Mission Embassy of Ireland was accompanied by the Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr Samuel Ameh and the State Emergency Management Agency Director, Mr Martins Alokpa.
