The State House of Assembly Thursday granted the request of Governor David Nweze Umahi to construct an ultra-modern Airport in Ebonyi state.
According to the letter of the Governor read by the Leader of the House, Chief Joseph Nwobashi, the Airport would be situated in a common boundary between Ezza South and Ezza North Local Government Areas of the state.
Also okayed by the Lawmakers are the request of the Governor for approval to design and build 20 – 30 thousand capacity Stadium at the Centenary City in Abakaliki and to relocate the State College of Medicine and Health Sciences with the establishment of the faculty of Pharmaceutical Science to Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The House equally approved for the establishment of Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Sciences in Abakaliki to cater for the Engineering services of the state.
Governor Umahi also requested for approval to surrender the state limestone licenses to the proposed EBOCEM cement company limited which however got legislative backing whereby the State is authorized to procure 10% and the public to subscribe to 35% equity holding in the proposed EBOCEM cement Company Limited.
Also during the business, a Bill for a Law to establish Ebonyi State investment promotion, investor’s protection, concession and regulatory commission passed 2nd reading.
The Bill and other related matters as well as all the requests of the Governor were exhaustively debated and when the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ogbonna Nwifuru Francis put the various motions and counter motions therein to vote, the ayes had it.
