Easter stands out as the most important celebration in the Christian calendar, as it marks the conquest of death through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This year, we are celebrating Easter in a challenging context amid painful circumstances; The COVID-19 pandemic which has affected the whole world is also affecting the way Easter is to be celebrated.
As this Easter season comes upon us, it is a period to look beyond the current devastating global health challenge and renew our hope and belief in God’s great love and providence for humanity.
As we celebrate Easter without the possibility of a physical communion, let us reflect deeply on what the “Body of Christ” means to each of us. In the darkness of this crisis, let the light of Christ shine in us through our love for one another, and in the depths of despair, we must see emerging signs of hope and a glorious future.
As we celebrate this great day of sacrifice and spiritual renewal, I want to enjoin all of the good people of Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency to use this period for thorough introspection and re-dedicate ourselves to doing what is right for God, humanity, LGA, State and our country. I urge us all to reflect on the resurrection story and remember that all things, even suffering, will come to an end through unity and faith. Therefore, in these times of crisis, we must stand with each other as the answer to this crisis lies in our unity.
As a nation, we are all stronger and better equipped to face challenges of every degree as calm, collected and law abiding citizens. Let us remain safe by obeying restrictions, acting collectively and responsibly in tandem with constituted authorities. With the Holy Spirit in our hearts, let us be the shining example of obedience, hope and courage.
It is my earnest prayer that in the midst of this global health challenge fraught with uncertainty and tension, the Easter message of renewed hope and a new life in Jesus Christ will heal our land.
May God’s sacrifice of his only begotten Son, redeem our brokenness and shine his light on our path; may the almighty God who has brought us this far continually protect us as a nation and spring us to rise back stronger from this adversity.
