EXPOSED!!! Despite His N3.6 Billion Contract Scam, Buhari Welcomes Senator Nwaoboshi To APC

A Nigerian senator has joined Nigeria’s ruling party after being charged by a government agency of using 11 firms as fronts to gain a N3.6 billion contract for himself.

“You are welcome to the progressives family,” President Muhammadu Buhari said on Friday as he welcomed Senator Peter Nwaoboshi to his party.

Mr. Nwaoboshi, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, is the senator representing Delta North District. Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege presented him to President Buhari and the National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) at the State House.

Mr Nwaoboshi’s choice to join the APC, according to Mr Omo-Agege, demonstrates that the CECPC’s efforts were bearing fruit.

In a statement emailed to PREMIUM TIMES on Friday, presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu claimed the senator was warmly received by party members.

Nwaoboshi is embroiled in the NDDC affair.

During the multiple claims and counter-accusations of fraud in the NDDC last year, the Niger Delta minister, Godswill Akpabio, accused federal lawmakers of corruption and poor job delivery in the NDDC in July, claiming that the lawmakers executed the majority of the commission’s contracts.

Mr Nwaoboshi was accused by the NDDC in June of last year of using 11 firms as fronts to gain a N3.6 billion contract with the commission. According to the commission, the contract was not completed and the money was not reimbursed.

The deal, according to NDDC spokesperson Charles Odili, was the “largest single incidence of stealing of the Commission’s resources.”

Mr Nwaoboshi, the head of the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta and the NDDC, has denied any misconduct, as have other listed lawmakers. Nobody has been found guilty of the NDDC’s multiple charges of fraud, and a government-ordered investigation has yet to be completed.
