The former state Treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos Chapter, Musiliu Akinsanya has lost his position to his rival Alhaji Azeez, popularly known as Kunle Poly.
We learnt that the position of the State Chairman is being rotated in all the three Senatorial Districts in Lagos, (Lagos East, West and Central). The immediate past Chairman Agbede was elected from Lagos West, the same district with MC Oluomo who was the State Treasurer of the union for eight good years. After Agbedes tenure expired, the leadership of the group decided to Zone the Chairmanship, Treasurer and other principal posts to reflect the new rotation in order to avoid crisis and rancor within the union.
MC Oluomo came from Lagos West, where the post of Vice Chairman was zoned to, since he could no longer retain his position as the Treasurer, the post available or zoned to his district is Vice Chairman, but was hell bent on contesting for the position of State Chairman not minding the zoning arrangement.
MC Oluomo was banking on the backing of APC National Leader, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu to help him secure the post, however, Tinubu was advised by concerned stakeholders to be careful on how he’ll meddle in the leadership tussle to avoid backlash.
The chairmanship position was zoned to the East since Agbede the immediate past chairman was from Lagos west and the former chairman before Agbede which is Olohunwa emerged from Lagos Centre .
From available sources, the zone to produce chairman of the Union is Lagos East for balance of power rotation and the branches in Lagos East nominated Adewale Ajilo as their consensus candidate which make it unopposed, the position of State Treasurer MC occupied was zone to Lagos Centre, which was picked by Kunle Poly.
The only available position for MC to take was Vice chairmanship which was zoned to Lagos west but he refused, insisting that if he must emerge as the State Chairman.
Since the election took place, MC Oluomo has reportedly been moving around to lobby prominent politicians and socialist to wade in, one of such is Oba Saheed Elegusi, who was reported to have told MC Oluomo to align himself with the new leadership.
We gathered that he is currently waiting for Senator Tinubu to return to Lagos if something can still be done to foist him on the union, but that may be a tall dream as Bola Tinubu may not be willing to travel through such journey, knowing fully well how sensitive the union matter could be, his last resort is that if he can’t get the State Chairmanship position again, he is pushing to retain his Treasurer position currently being occupied by Kunle Poly, which may be mission impossible.
