Fire guts Unical hostel, destroys properties

One of the numerous University of calabar students hostels has been confirmed burnt this todayby fire outrage as a result of a controversial connection by the affected students.

According to an eye witness who was at the scene said, the fire engulfed mysteriously at about 2:26 Pm when the was power supplies and burnt down the wardrobe containing clothes, bags and other belongings of one Miss Faith, a final year student of medical laboratory science and others.




While, some students who speaks in anonymity said that it was as result of wrong connection by the affected students for the sake of using hitter (hot plate) which is highly prohibited within the hostels.

However, the Dean of students Affairs, Professor Bassey Enang Udah in his continue urgent response to students matters quickly match-in with more able hands in place to arrest the situation.

He said, _” It quite unfortunate that this should in any case be heard about our home ( hostel), but however, blames the students for such illegal connections and cautioned others to desist from anything which will be detrimental to them and always report anything wrong in the hostels to the students leaders and the respective halls administrators instead or directly to his office rather than relying on self-help”.

The students Director of Welfare comrade, Omini Siohia, in his response said, _”I thank God that the fire came up when persons where around and quickly quenched it that it ended up in only one room. Also I thank the management for availability of fire extinguishers. However, strictly, malabites and malabresses must absolutely desist from the used of contraband gadgets within the hostels or risk been ejected from their spaces (corners) and also face the university disciplinary committee”.

Present was a former Vice presidential candidate for the SUG and the president, Female Leadership Forum(FLF), Comrade Amanda Damian, who also meaningfully learnt her voice and called on students to desist from the use of what will cause destruction to our environment and the the university properties.
