Five People Arrested In Calabar Over The Death of Four Policemen

 

 

Sikiru Akande, the Cross River State Police Commissioner, has confirmed that after the killing of four police officers in the early hours of Thursday along with the MCC-Idungdung route, Etab Ayip axis, Calabar Municipality Local Government District, five people are now in their custody.

Akande, who also confirmed the incident to journalists in his office, said that four Mufti police officers had been killed and that five people had already been arrested in connection with the tragic killing.

He said: “Their aim is to dampen our minds.” Yet we are determined and we will strike back at them. He who laughs last, it is always said, laughs best; let the people of Cross River wait for the last laugh. It’s going to make us happier.’

We have arrested five individuals who are linked to growth. We’ll arrest more yet. We had an idea that it was a group of alleged cultists who are working hard to get guns that are coming up very soon for their initiation. So, we’ll get all of those involved in this dastardly act in four days at most,’ Akande said.

Speaking further, Akande said that some of the arms taken on the spot had been retrieved by the police.

He also disclosed that the checkpoint that was targeted was not known to the command headquarters of the State Police.

His words were: “If it were known to us, we would have found a way to cover it up.” The checkpoint is not an arrangement of this Command. You will see if you were there that they were in the mufti.

We will get all our weapons back by God’s Grace. It’s just the lives we’re not going to get back. We have to tell the family first about the names of the officers before making the names public.

Our spirit is not dampened, I want to assure you. In fact, after the incident, we will continue to work very hard,” Akande said.

Vanguard heard that the gunmen had taken two weapons away, though two were also retrieved by the police.
