FOMWAN Celebrates Women’s Achievements In Cross River,Call Govt To Action

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN),has joined other women worldwide to celebrate the achievements of Nigeria Women, despite the harsh operating environment.

The Ameerah of the religious Organization (FOMWAN) in Cross River State,Hajia Lateefah Yahaya Idinye in a special message to women as part of the 2021 International women’s Day Celebration said ,despite the gender disparity against women in Nigeria,Cross River Stand tall among the few states in the Country that encourages women with a platform to get to their enviable height.

The FOMWAN Chairperson in Cross River State specifically commended Govenor Ben Ayade for appointing women into various high level political offices ,which includes,the Secretary to the Government Barr. Tina Banku Agbor,Chief Judge of the state, Justice Akon Ikpeme,Head of service,Chairmen of councils and many vice chairmen among others.

Hajia Lateefah however called on the Governor and other highly placed individual to do more by providing more economic opportunities for women to be less dependent and supportive to their families,society and the Country.

She urged Muslims in particular and other leaders at various stata in general to give voice to the women and empowering the girl child.

“Whether in the political decision making process or in the bureaucratic settings, women are setting a new standard of building a sustainable and brighter future by upholding affirmative action,and there is not turning back” she said.

Every March 8, is being celebrated as the International Women’s Day ,which is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The day is powered by the collective action and shared ownership for driving gender parity thag makes international Women’s Day impactful. The day also marks call to action for celebrating Women’s equality.
