Governor Uzodinma expressed horror over the assassination of the APC veteran in a radio interview on Monday, characterizing the tragedy as an unfortunate clear example of political assassination, a perspective Governor Wike did not share.

“I believe that the governor of Imo State, my brother Hope Uzodinma, should enable the security authorities to do a thorough investigation before declaring it a political assassination.

“Because you did that, it suggests you already know who committed the crime, which isn’t fair. When things like this happen, let the security authorities look into it and then say, “Look, this is what we found out through our investigations,” Wike said.

Gunmen assassinated Ahmed Gulak, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at Umueze Obiangwu, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, along the Sam Mbakwe Airport road in Owerri, Imo State, on Sunday.

Gulak, a former advisor to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was on his way to the airport when he was accosted by gunmen who shot him dead on the spot.

Governor Wike expressed his condolences to the Gulak family, saying that no loss of life is acceptable, regardless of the form it takes. He cautioned, however, against politicizing Gulak’s death, emphasizing that all extrajudicial deaths of civilians in the country must be handled as criminal.
