A former Rivers state governorship candidate has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Weetalknaija.com.ng reports.
Tonye Princewill, a former Rivers State governorship candidate, has left the All Progressives Congress, citing the Muslim-Muslim ticket for the presidential election in 2023.
Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, had chosen Senator Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno State, as his running mate.
Primcewill, a philanthropist, APC chieftain, and ally of former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, ran for governor of the state under the Labour Party in 2015.
His resignation was contained in a letter dated July 12, 2022, addressed to the Chairman of the APC in his ward, Tahhed Royal Ward in Buguma, Asar Toru Local Government Area.
While expressing his displeasure with the party’s decision to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket, Princewill stated that he could not argue for equity in his state while defending inequality in the country.
While thanking Amaechi, whom he referred to as his leader, he said the party’s actions were insensitive, despite protests from religious and political divides across the country.
