1 min

On behalf of the team, Golden Eaglets, Taiwo Adeniyi appealed to Ayade and the Government of Cross-River State to redeem the promises made to them in 2013 after they brought victory home from a U-17 World Cup at Qatar in 2013.

Awoniyi ,who scored four goals in the tournament said it on Instagram yesterday when marking the seventh anniversary for the team. He said that “Governor Ben Ayade, please fulfil the house pledged players and officials of the U-17 World Cup-winning team by the Cross River State Government since 2013. God bless you as you do.”

The Government of Cross-River State made this promise seven years ago to the Golden Eaglets Team when they received them to the government house in Calabar following their victory in the tournament.

He also said that it is hard to believe that, the houses Senator Imoke promised the team and their officials in front of the Minister of Youth and Sports Development and his cabinet have not yet been fufilled till date.

“It’s unbelievable that we have yet to be given these houses after we won the U-17 World Cup and celebrated by everybody. In fact, we were most impressed when Senator Imoke said in the presence of the then Minister of Youth and Sports Development Bolaji Abdullahi, former NFF President Aminu Maigari and members of his cabinet, that he preferred house gifts as a lasting legacy than monetary rewards but it’s unfortunate that after all these years, we are still waiting for the houses to be delivered to the players and officials, ” Garba said.

Also, Emmanual Amuneke, who happened to be Garba’s assistant, begged Gov. Ayade and the whole Cross River Government at large to fulfill the houses promised to the players and their officials while they are still alive.

“We would like to use this opportunity to beg current Governor Ben Ayade to fulfil this promise of house gifts to the players and officials of the team when we are all still alive, the labour of our heroes past as a matter of fact, should not be in vain,” he said.
