Government of Cross River Sets Date for School Resumption

Dr. Betta Edu, Chairman of the Cross River State COVID-19 Task Force, has announced that the state’s primary and secondary schools are ready to reopen tomorrow.
Edu, who serves as Health Commissioner, said this yesterday in a telephone conversation with our Calabar correspondent.

She said the state had placed all the COVID-19 procedures in place and educated school principals on preventive measures in the three state senatorial districts.

We looked at their hand washing devices, thermometers, and everything they needed to track the spread of the pandemic. In the event that there is an emergency call, we have given them the link number to call.

“We will send a task force to track and ensure that they comply with the guidelines of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“In order to see how we can prepare for the opening of tertiary institutions, there are also parts of the University of Calabar COVID-19 response team.”

Also, Dr. Godwin Amanke, State Commissioner for Quality Education, said schools were resuming the timetable of last year on their original date.

The individual states are subject to their peculiar conditions. In this state, we have no immediate danger to warrant such a move. We would encourage schools to follow the protocols required. Parents, teachers, students, all of them have roles to play,’ he said.
