Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party is cruising ahead of his APC counterpart, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as results from local councils were declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the collated results of the governorship election announced in four LGAs early Sunday, Obaseki is ahead by 14,994 votes.
The PDP candidate won in all the three councils. Results from the remaining 14 councils are still being collated.

Meanwhile, Former Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has predicted victory for Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
In his post on Twitter Saturday night, Bruce congratulated Obaseki on what he described as an “anticipated victory”.
He said the election was keenly contested.
“I congratulate @GovernorObaseki of the @OfficialPDPNig on a well-contested election, and most importantly on the clear cut anticipated victory. #EdoDecides”, he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State; Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies ahead of the announcement of the Edo State governorship election result.
The PDP Governors also called on the various stakeholders in the election to ensure the collation centres are secured.
They addressed reporters in Benin City, the Edo State capital on Saturday, during the governorship election.
The Governors commended INEC and those in charge of security for conducting what they described as a peaceful election in the state.
