How Politicians Toy With Obubra People After John Okpa’s Death — Obi

Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Professor Sandy Onor, yesterday, distributed set of motorcycles, grinding machines, refrigerators and other empowerment kits to Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River Central senatorial district.

The Senator who was represented by the Director General (DG) Caterpillar Movement, Chief Bisong Obi, while presenting the items, Obi said the gesture was part of the Senator’s efforts to fulfil his campaign promises of providing an improved living condition to the people of Cross River Central.

The senator, who noted that such motivations would reduce the rate of unemployment and over-dependence among youths, said the motivations would encourage productivity in the communities

The Director General (DG) Caterpillar Movement, Chief Bisong Obi decried how Obubra has been neglected over the years since the demised of Chief John Oyom Okpa.

He said:-
“Whoever that has been involved in the Politics of Cross River State, would know that Obubra was very strategic. But when you lost your leader, Chief John Oyom Okpa, that was a major setback in the political growth of the Obubra people”.

“After Chief John Okpa’s Death, Obubra LGA became like a no man’s land. Anybody can walk in there, toy with the people, use them left, right, centre and abandoned them.
But we are happy that the emerging leaders that are beginning to get up from Obubra and say enough is enough. You can’t continue to use us like this, we want to take our destiny in our hands”.

Continuing, Obi who thanked the member representing Obubra 1 State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr). Friday Okpechi Gabriel for always speaking truth to power, said he is an emerging leader, urged Obubra people to stay strong and remain united, irrespective of Political divides.

He said:- “I want to urged Obubra sons and daughters, irrespective of your divides, collapse, identify with one strong young man who is purposeful, he will give you leadership, so that he can pick your lost glory and run the race of power in Cross River. He said, it’s unfortunate we are where we are today.

Obi, who was reacting to the unprecedented influx of Fulani Herdsmen into the state’s northen region, said the development came few days after the governor’s defection to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

The function which was officially declared opened by the chapter Chairman of the Obubra People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), Chief Godwin Igwe, thanked the Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Sandy Onor for his continuing love for the people of Obubra LGA.

The Lawmaker representing Obubra 1 State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr). Friday Okpechi Gabriel stated emphatically that Obubra would not be taken for granted anymore.

He said:-
“No one will take the Obubra people for granted anymore, the Obubra people are fully in support of Senator Sandy Onor and the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP)”.

Reacting to the Governor’s defection to APC, the Lawmaker who donned a white hat with the words “Proudly PDP” plainly inscribed on it, said he is proud to be a PDP member and Obubra is PDP, because PDP was founded in Obubra LGA.

“They said they are moving because it didn’t favoured them. Would they moved if it had favoured them”?

Appreciating the Senator for the massive empowerment, Rt. Hon. (Dr). Friday Okpechi Gabriel appealed to those who are yet to benefit to be patient and steadfast, adding that the mother of all empowerment is on the way.

The empowerment which cut across the six Local Government Area in the Central Senatorial District of the State has over 96-100 beneficiaries in each LGAs.

Some of those who received the items expressed gratitude to Sandy Onor for remembering them.

While commending him for his quality representation, the people promised to always support him in his political endeavour.

Some of the items include; Refrigerators, grinding machines, vulcanizing machines, Water Pumping machines, Motorcycles, etc.
