Breaking News: INEC Postpones General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commissions (INEC), has introduced that Elections which was scheduled to carry February 16 has been shifted to 23rd February 2019 for Presidential and National Assembly whereas the Governorship, State House of Assembly and the FCT Area Council Elections is to carry on ninth March 2019 as towards earlier scheduled 2nd March.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakub disclosed this in a press statement that the fee concluded this following a cautious evaluate of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan and dedication that continuing with the elections as scheduled is now not possible.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission met on Friday, 15 February 2019 and reviewed its preparation for the 2019 common elections scheduled for Saturday, February 16, and Saturday, March 2.

“Following a cautious evaluate of the implementation of its logistics and operational plans and its dedication to conduct free, honest and credible elections, the fee got here to the conclusion that continuing with the election as scheduled is now not possible.

“Consequently, the fee has determined to reschedule the Presidential/National Assembly elections to Saturday, 23rd February 2019. Furthermore, the Governorship/State House of Assembly/Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections are rescheduled to Saturday, ninth March 2019.
