JUST IN!! Unknown Gunmen On Rampage, Kidnap LG Chairman, Kill Commissioner

Gunmen assassinated the Commissioner of the Pension Board in Kogi State, police officials reported to Channels Television on Sunday.

On Saturday, the commissioner, Honourable Adebayo Solomon, was assassinated, while Pius Kolawole, the Chairman of Yagba East Local Government, and others were kidnapped.

The slain commissioner was said to be traveling from Ilorin to Kabba when his vehicle was shot at Eruku village, a few kilometers from Egbe, the Kwara-Kogi state border area, by gunmen.

His remains were deposited at ECWA Hospital in Egbe, while Kolawole’s whereabouts were unknown.

In response to the incident, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Ede, confirmed that an extensive investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators of the heinous act.

The council chairman’s kidnapping may be linked to his concerted efforts to rid his local government area of hoodlums accused of being herdsmen terrorizing the council.

Kidnappings and robberies have been recorded in Kogi State, with many blaming the criminal activities on the poor state of the roads.

Several armed robbery and abduction cases have been identified in the state’s three senatorial districts in recent months.

Last Sunday, police operatives from Ajaokuta Division rescued two abducted victims who had been held captive for four days in the kidnappers’ den.

Clifford Ordia, the Senator representing Edo Central in the National Assembly, was attacked twice by bandits on the Okene-Lokoja and Lokoja-Abaji roads in Kogi State on his way to Abuja a few days ago.

Ordia, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, told reporters about his ordeal on April 28 in Abuja.

On Monday, while returning to Abuja from his hometown in Edo State, he was traveling along the Okenne-Lokoja and Lokoja-Abaji roads when the daredevil bandits opened fire on his convoy.

Three police officers were shot during the exchange of fire between the criminals and the security operatives assigned to him, according to the senator.

He stated that one of the injured police officers was in a critical condition but was responding to treatment in one of Abuja’s hospitals.
