Kano Reps member and his supporters have defected from the NNPP to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Weetalknaija.com.ng.

The member representing Karaye & Rogo federal constituency in Kano State has defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Weetalknaija.com.ng report.

Hon. Shehu Aliyu who defected alongside his supporters, joined the former Kano State Governor,  Ibrahim Shekarau in PDP.

 

Weetalknaija.com.ng had earlier reported that Shekarau who officially announced his defection at a grand ceremony at his residence in Kano on Monday, graced by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the PDP National Chairman, Iyochia Ayu.

Other PDP bigwigs in attendance include the party’s vice presidential candidate and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa; governors of Sokoto and Taraba, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Darius Ishaku.

 

Others are former Vice President, Namadi Sambo, the chairman of the BOT of the party, former governors of Jigawa (Saminu Turaki and Sule Lamido), Sokoto (Attahiru Bafarawa), Kaduna (Ahmed Makarfi), Adamawa (Boni Haruna), among others.

Shekarau said he had already written a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the NNPP offices at the national, state, local government and ward levels informing them of his decision to quit the party.

 

According to him, INEC at the national and state levels has been notified of his decision to relinquish his senatorial contest in NNPP.

 

Until 2018, Shekarau was a member of the PDP, with his exit stemming from the internal rift in the Kano chapter of the party.

 

But just last week, Shekarau said he was done with the NNPP, alleging that Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate, betrayed the agreement made with him before joining the party

It was gathered that the Shekarau’s group had been demanding that the party implement the terms of the agreement it reached with it before the defection of its members.

 

Yau Sule, the Spokesperson of Shekarau had said both sides had agreed that an unspecified number of the former governor’s associates would be awarded nomination tickets for the general elections.

 

Shekarau who confirmed the rift between him and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, had last week Monday, lamented the way the NNPP neglected the request submitted for inclusion of his associates as party candidates.

 

According to him, numerous reminders to Kwankwaso before the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were not appreciated.

 

Shekarau had said: “We consulted our brother Kwankwaso prior to even his joining NNPP when he was in PDP and I was in APC. After we agreed to join NNPP, prior to closing submission of list to INEC, we designed areas and places to field candidates for state to Federal Government. I met him alone on 5 May at about 8:30.
