The member representing Obubra 1 State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Friday Gabriel Okpechi has on Thursday, during a plenary session pleaded with the state governor, Senator Ben Ayade to as a matter of urgency appoint an expertise into the office of the State Security Adviser (SSA) so as to curb the ceaseless killings and kidnapping in the state.

Okpechi who moved the motion in the house, stressed that for some time now, the state capital, Calabar, had witnessed different cases of kidnapping, killings, cult clashes, communal clashes amongst others.

Lamenting, Rt. Hon Friday Okpechi said Cross Riverians are dying on daily basis as though they don’t have representatives, adding that, the reasons they came out to vote during the election was for them to be protected.

“Few days ago, the house received a report on the alleged kidnapped of one Dr Marcus who works with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), and just last week, we also received another report on the dead of one of the students in Cross State University of Technology, (CRUTECH), this is too pathetic to hear”, Okpechi added.

“If as leaders, we can’t provide enabling environment for our people to live and go about their day-to-day activities, then we have all fail”, Rt. Hon Okpechi lamented.

Contributing to the motion moved by Rt. Hon Friday Gabriel Okpechi, member representing Obubra 1, Rt Hon Itam Abang of Boki 1 stated thus “I allign my voice to say enough of kidnapping because we do not know who’ll be the next victim.

“To the doctors, we have heard your plight , we are in support of you, but please go back to safe lives, let’s have our hospitals working”, Itam added.
