Okpechi Friday urged youth to shun social vices and make their youthful days count by making impactful decisions on their future .

This charge was given to the youths on the celebration of the 2022 International Youth Day by the Member Obubra 1 State constituency and PDP candidate for the Obubra/Etung Federal constituency seat, Rt. Hon. Okpechi Friday Gabriel.

In his message of felicitation made available to newsmen on Friday, 12th August, 2022, Rt Hon Okpechi congratulated the youths of Obubra/Etung Federal constituency, Cross River State and Nigeria for the Youth Day. A day that is set aside by the United Nations to showcase how the engagement of the Youth in formal political mechanisms has the potential to enhance the transparency of political processes by decreasing democratic deficiencies. He said this shows that the world believes in the energy of the youth to deepen our democracy.

Thus, he said the youths must be alive to this responsibility by shunning social vices and use their creativity, potential and capacity to galvanise change in Obubra/Etung Federal constituency, Cross River State and indeed Nigeria.

Rt. Hon. Okpechi noted that this year’s theme, “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages” is vital for our country as we prepare for the general elections in 2023. According to him, “It is critical and necessary at this point in our nation’s history to foster intergenerational solidarity between generations, especially with the youth, to ensure an inclusive and sustainable economic recovery for Nigeria. Rt. Hon. Okpechi then charged the youths to be the pivot of this collaboration across generations because the world now recognises the need to leverage the full potential of the youths is enhancing intergenerational solidarity, which will foster a balanced and equitable growth for our nation. He said that, “Youth is the hope of our future. You must be the agents of collaboration across ages to rescue Nigeria. You must be actively involved in politics and lead the collaboration to elect leaders who are youth friendly, thereby creating opportunities for youth inclusiveness in governance.”

Rt. Hon. Okpechi, who is the PDP candidate for Obubra/Etung Federal constituency seat promised his commitment to youth engagement and participation in the developmental process of the constituency if elected. “The youths are a key human resource for development and agents of economic and sociopolitical change. In Aristotle’s words, ‘The duty of the youth is to change corruption.’”
