Major Shake-Up In PDP As Cross River Governor, Zamfara Governor, Others Conclude Plans To Join APC

Following an attempt by the All Progressives Congress to usher in Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and his Cross River State counterpart, Governor Ben Ayade, the PUNCH has learned, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party was thrown into panic.
The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, who is also the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State are in charge of the negotiations.
An impeccable source inside the APC told Sunday PUNCH that the APC was also targeting Governor Ifeanyi Uguwanyi of Enugu State, but had rejected their advances.

Uguwanyi is shot, but he proves to be stubborn. Our aim is to ensure we have at least three out of the five South-East states ahead of the 2023 elections. If we can’t get Ugwuanyi, we’re going to make sure we win the election for the Anambra governorship later in the year,’ he said.
It was discovered that Zamfara State Governor Matawalle had already been recognized as a former state governor, Senator Ahmed Yerima, by top All Progressive Congress officials in Zamfara State, who had publicly announced that Matawalle would defect.
“A PDP chieftain said, “Through a Supreme Court decision, Matawalle became governor. There is still a great deal of APC in Zamfara State and Matawalle is seeking a second term in office. With President Muhammadu Buhari, he was able to develop a good relationship.

Also seeking a second term is Bala Mohammed. The relationship with the Presidency is due to his latest comments on herdsmen and his reluctance to blame the Federal Government. We made frenzied attempts to keep him in the party, but he may have made up his mind, it seems, he said.
It was heard from Governor Ayade of the Cross River State that he and his predecessor, Senator Liyel Imoke, had fallen out.
It was discovered that the PDP structure in the state had lost control of Ayade.
It is also predicted that the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, will soon leave the PDP along with some governors before the APC’s registration exercise ends.

To make promises and keep them, they have the President’s backing. A former governor claimed that they are not like Bola Tinubu and Adams Oshiomhole, who were not empowered by the President.
It was learned, meanwhile, that as of Saturday evening, former President Goodluck Jonathan had not made any commitment to join the APC.
Indeed, an associate of the former president said that Jonathan was not satisfied with the PDP, which told Mr. David Lyon of his support for the APC candidate in his home state of Bayelsa in the last governorship election.

However, it was discovered that Jonathan saw the move as too risky.
Jonathan was going to join the APC, but the issue is that it’s too risky. The only thing you can offer him at his stage is the Presidency, and no one can promise him that seat because it is too volatile for politics. So, he’s going to stay in the PDP for now,” he said.

On Saturday, the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, alleged that the APC leadership was giving false promises to some opposition party members to encourage them to defect to the ruling party.
Secondus told The PUNCH that the ruling party had made several moves to bring the PDP members into its fold, saying that the intention of the APC was to snatch the members of the PDP but later to refuse to give them any significant role in the party in the future.
