A popular trading market in Cross River State, Calabar Municipal Local Government known as Akim Market was set ablazed on fire early hour today, Thursday by a gas vendor during a heavy pour of rain in the city of Calabar.

Akim market is the third largest market in the city of Calabar comprising of diverse traders in segment and clusters raw food distributors.

At 9:30am WAT on Thursday a newsman; David Peter confirmed the outbreak of fire at Akim Market, Calabar Municipal by a gas distributor and supplier.

An eyewitness a resident in Akim Market, Mr. Chris confirmed; the fire blazing up from a gas vendor shop spreading wide across building.

He said; “The gas from one of the cylinder leaked and caught up with fire.

Continuing; “The operator brought out his fire extinguisher and tried to quench it but the fire got serious and affected the other cylinders that was how the explosion started”. He explained.

Dorcas a nursing student expressed; I saw a flamed of fire from this man shop who refills gas spreading across other trader shops this early morning the fire outbreak enormously hindmost about four hours from 9am-12am this morning before the intervention of the fire service”, She said.

Interviewing, Mr. Austin a resident at Akim market, he appraised the fire service for their response to extinguished the flamed up. Austin applaud the fire service.

He expressed; “I am happy the Cross River State Fire Service is effective. In as much properties, shops and homes were burnt the fire service play their role to menace this flaming a widespread i appreciate their active responds to our calls as request.

The market traders frowned at the destruction and lost of their edible products and properties.
A provision store owner lamented with tears “For this buhari era things dey tough and hard were i wan take start from to set up my provision shop again”.

Another cried out; “This is risky and my good worth over 250,000 was burnt down this day Thursday, i am confused about this life at this moment”.

Street residents assisted to convey fair goods and materials as well sympathies with the affected traders and persons assuring them of more and huge hope in as much their life is secured. The residents further, urge them to be grateful to God over no lost of life’s but a temporal material elements lost.

This day Thursday 20, June 2019. Cross River State traders in akim market experience a sudden shock as properties get burnt and rusted, struggle to search for fair property’s to reused, zero life’s lost as attached Shops, house and properties go up in flames in consequence of cylinder linkage waddle with gas.
